Solar Panels - How to Choose Your Installer

Jan 09, 2021

Solar panels are a great investment but the initial outlay makes you nervous about choosing an installer. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to picking your local installers, so here’s a few things you can think about.

It’s important to check the credibility of the company installing your solar panels. Try and do some research into how long they have been installing panels. It’s a good idea to find out what services they offer and what they specialise in.

When you’re investing a lot of money it’s nice to know that the company who you’re paying is on your doorstep. Not only for convenience but for maintenance and warranties. I would recommend searching on Google or Bing to find local installers. Once you have found a few it’s a good idea to check their websites for more information.

To find out the quality of service from the solar company you should check their reviews. A review will give you an honest experience from a customer and will give you greater insight into the company. A good place to find reviews is checking their website or finding their Google listings. To find an example search Google for ‘My Contribution Ltd’ and you’ll see our reviews.

If you’re looking to claim the Feed-in-Tariff the company, you choose must have some important accreditations. Most important is the MCS certificate and without it you won’t be able to secure your payments. A good company would also be part of the RECC and a member of the NICEIC or similar schemes.

Most local solar companies offer warranties but they may differ in the amount of warranty you get. My Contribution offer a 10-year workmanship warranty on all our installations. The products you get installed will also come with a warranty and again, this can differ depending on whether you pay for an extension or not. It’s best practice to talk to the solar installers about what warranties they can offer on workmanship and products.

With a solar installation comes a lot of paperwork. It’s good to know the company that are installing your solar panels are well versed with the procedures. A helping hand with Feed-in-Tariff forms and other tiresome paperwork can make the whole process smooth and hassle-free.
