You need to think about the size of panel you’d like both physically and by size of output. Some panels are obviously bigger and bulkier than others, with advances in technology it’s only natural that newer solar panels are much thinner than older ones. It’s important that you’re happy with the look of your panels especially if they’ll be sitting on your roof for many years to come. Secondly you need to think about the size of panel and by size I mean by the amount of energy it can produce. A typical solar panel for homes can range from 230w to 315w meaning you can either have lower wattage panels but have more of them or alternatively have a higher wattage panel and have less to save space. For example, for a 4kW system I could have 16 x 250w panels or I could have 13 x 315w panels.
The appearance of a solar panel is important as its part of your home and you will be living with it for some time. The most popular panels we install in Pembrokeshire are the Solarworld Sunmodules, these panels are all black with a black aluminium frame, perfect for any type of roof. They are manufactured in Germany and give you excellent value for your money.
The silicon in solar panels take many forms, the most common two are Mono-crystalline and Poly-crystalline. They both offer advantages and disadvantages but the truth is that you wouldn’t even notice a big difference between them.
